PRACTICAL TIPS FOR DENTAL HYGIENE IN MONTREAL
Having good dental hygiene is easier than you think. By following these tips, in addition to those given by your dentist at Clinique Dentaire Christophe Colomb in Montreal, you can maintain your oral health. If you have any questions feel free to call us! You can also ask any questions when you see your dentist at your annual appointment.
TEETH BRUSHING - THE TWICE-A-DAY RULE!
It is recommended to brush the teeth twice a day (after lunch and before bed) for 2 minutes each time.
USE DENTAL FLOSS
Floss every evening to remove the plaque that your toothbrush can’t reach.
ANNUAL CHECK-UP
Consult your dentist annually to check on the health of your teeth, gums and throat. He may also do a cleaning and provide appropriate hygiene advice.
MAINTENANCE OF REMOVABLE DENTURES
Dentures should be cleaned after each meal, including tooth brushing. Never brush the prosthesis with toothpaste, but only with the special denture brush and water. Dentures must be taken out every night and soaked in water with a denture cleanser.
POST TOOTH-EXTRACTION
It is important never to touch the wound with your fingers. Also avoid smoking for at least 24 hours. Avoid rinsing the wound or spitting for 24 hours, as this can cause more bleeding. Press the wound firmly during the hours following the extraction with the compresses given by your dentist.
SENSITIVE TEETH
Tooth sensitivity can be caused by gum recession. Brushing with warm water and toothpaste such as Sensodyne is recommended. An oral exam will help locate the cause of sensitivity more accurately.
PANORAMIC RADIOGRAPHY
Panoramic radiography is an effective tool for assessing the upper and lower jaws, as well as the condition of the wisdom teeth, the sinuses and the temporomandibular joint.
